Choosing to go to therapy can be a brave and bold move. Congratulations getting this far!
In general, psychotherapy can look like a lot of things. At Evernew Counselling, a therapy session usually involves the counsellor and client working together to identify a question, goal, or issue to focus on. The hour is often spent with the counsellor asking sensitive and open-ended questions to allow the client to explore their thoughts and feelings on the issue identified. Sometimes we might suggest activities that may be useful in seeing the issue from a new perspective.
Our therapists won’t tell you what to do or try to fix your problems (although, if we could snap our fingers and make everything peachy, we would!). We listen, we ask questions, we make suggestions, and we reflect your own words back to you. By the end of each session, you might feel like you understand something better, like you know where to put your energy, or that you have learned some skill to apply to your day-to-day life.
Our therapists share a common approach to therapy but are different people, with different skills, interests, and strengths. Learn more about our work below!
